Meet Benita
Hello, my name is Benita DeVaney and I reside in Athens, AL with my husband and dog, Jackson. We have two adult children 22, and 24 which means we are empty nesters. I enjoy the outdoors, crafting and spending time with family and friends.
For the last eight years, I have worked with the Huntsville City School system where I have taught sixth grade Math. I have been the math coach for grades 3-6 for the last 5 years. Before moving to HCS, I worked in the Limestone County Schools in the autism unit teaching science and social studies part of the Special ED program named AAA. I gained more insight about the need for technology resources for all grades and special education.
I am really enthusiastic about helping others love to learn math. I have had the honor to work on the HCS pacing guides for middle school math for the last five years. My passion even helped when I was placed on the adoption of a new math program for the district. My love for math goes well beyond the classroom and I am always searching for innovative technology resources to use for math. Helping my students learn math and not hate math is my goal for my classroom.
My passion for math has led me to the master’s program at Athens State University. I am studying in the concentration of curriculum and instruction and focus on Math and the need to help teachers teach students the love of math districtwide through the Math Coach programs from the state level.
